Installing and Using the Flash Player

RhythmBee files use the Flash Player on your computer, so if you do not have the latest, please download and install it.  There is no charge for the Flash Player, and here is the link:  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

It is also helpful if you have the very latest web browser, so it would be a good idea to download that as well.  These upgrades are also free:

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Mozilla Firefox

There is a Download Assistance link on the home page.  It will direct you to downloads that can make the download process faster.

With the latest version of those files downloaded and installed, it is time to set-up your RhythmBee files.  Start a new folder on your desktop (or wherever you would like it to be) and give it an appropriate name.  This is the folder into which you will download the RhythmBee files.  When there is even one file in that folder, you can set up your computer to play the RhythmBee files.

Here is a step-by-step procedure that should allow the files to play properly through your browser or through the free-standing Flash Player.

  1. Right click on a RhythmBee file link from the folder on your computer - not from the Download list on the RhythmBee site.
  2. Select "Open with. . . " from the drop down menu.
  3. Select "Adobe Flash Player" in either the "Recommended Programs" or the "Other Programs" category.  There will be some numbers after the words "Adobe Flash Player."  Those are not important as long as they represent the latest version that you previously downloaded.
  4. If the "Adobe Flash Player" is not present in either list, you can "browse" your computer to find that "Adobe Flash Player."  When you find it and select it, it will then appear in the list, and you can proceed to the next step on this list.
  5. Be sure the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked.
  6. Click "OK."  If the file opens and plays, you are set.
Congratulations!  You may skip the rest of these instructions.

If you were not able to find the "Adobe Flash Player," you can select your browser as the program that will always play the RhythmBee files.  Although it will look like you are online, the browser will actually be playing the RhythmBee files from your computer.  The "Close" button in the RhythmBee files should be the only unworkable feature if you use your browser as the preferred program.

The best solution is to persist in completing Step #4 above.  In that process, Step #4 above will include the following:
  • Check in the following location:  c:\Users\your computer name\Downloads\Players\Release
  • If Flash Player is not there end this "browse" process.
  • Click on the "Start" menu of your computer.
  • Select the "Search" feature.
  • Search your entire computer for this exact phrase
 Flashplayer.exe
  • When "Flash Player" appears in your search list, right click on it and select "Open file location" or "Properties."
  • Write down the exact location of the Flash Player on your computer.
  • Go back to Step #1 and perform Steps 1-3.
  • When you get to Step #4, "browse" for the exact location that you wrote down.
  • Select Flash Player.
  • Proceed to Step #5 above.
This process should solve most problems, but there are only a million variations that may be present on your computer.  Remember two key facts:
  1. The browser will play the Flash files just fine except for the "Close" button, which will not function in your browser.
  2. Kids have a special talent for working with these machines.  We can usually save lots of our own time and recognize the talents of a student if we assign one of the friendly neighborhood geeks the task of following the above instructions.

If none of the above works, please call me.
